The Costa Calida means "Warm Coast" and it is located between the Costa Blanca and the Costa Almeria in the south east of Spain. It boasts the best all-year-round weather in mainland Spain. Also known to be the sunniest place in Europe.
Blessed by the mildest Mediterranean climate, the Murcian region has an average 310 days of sun per year. Coasta Calida is known for very mild winters and dry hot summers. The average annual temperature is 19ºC. Summer is invariably hot, but nearly always with a refreshing breeze. Hot summers day in July or August tend to get to temperatures between 35ºC to 40ºC. There is very little rain in this part of Spain. In winter, you might get the odd chilly night with a temperature of about 5ºC but then during the day, with the sun out, it's t-shirt weather again!.
Due to all the sunshine the Costa Calida is a good choice for sporting activites ~ Sea and land! Such as windsurfing, kite-surfing, jetskiing and sailing. Costa Calida weather allows for great golf and there are famous golf courses in the Torrevieja, Cartagena and Murcia area. Not forgetting the world famous La Manga resort and spa!
Costa Calida has many kilometres of fine sandy beaches and has been awarded the Blue Flag for water quality. The clean air along with the healthy Mar Menor waters (very salty, therefore good for rheumatic diseases and skin problems), the fine autumn and winter, and the sunsets in Mar Menor, make this area one of the nicest to stay in Europe. The the sea temperature of the Mar Menor, an average of 23C, is several degrees higher than the Mediterean making it great for all sorts of water sports. In the summer months it feels like a warm bath and because of its high salt content, it is very easy to float and relax in. Midnight swimmers can often be seen in the summer months!!!
The low rainfall helps some unusual Ibero-African plant species to flourish here.
